1. To do ONLY “what is required, when is required and in the required amount.”
- What is required: means the reference of what the client is requiring.
- When is required: immediately when required.
- In the required amount: Not more, not less than the amount required.
2. Quality must be an integral part of the process.
- The operator has the authority to stop the process if there were a risk of producing defective parts.(Jidoka)
- The equipment will have poka-yoke systems that impede the processing of defective parts.
3. The total time of processing (Lead Time or TPCT 'Total Productive Cycle Time') must be kept to a minimum.
- This is the total time that takes from the moment that the raw materials arrive to our premises until the finished product leaves our premises to be delivered to the client.
- The shorter the period is, the faster the investment on raw materials and processes is recovered by eliminating unnecessary inventory and avoiding waiting times.
4. Accurate use of machinery and manpower.
- Once the investment is done, we must maximize the use of assets for optimum profitability.
- Accurate use of manpower does not signify excess nor abuse, it means to standardize the good practices and an optimum efficiency, as well as to balance the activities of all the employees.
5. Continuous improvement (KAIZEN)
- The process never finishes. There will always be a better way of performing it.
